What the Wiki! What's with De Bono?

I've got to say i'm not a big fan of the wiki. The fact that it can be edited by anyone is not a good thing in a school situation (or most others infact). Even though the founder of the wiki has ultimate control over  the content, there is still that ability to have your work manipulated, and not always in the best way.
Give me a blog anyday; where people can comment on my blog and not change anything i say.
The Wiki has a limited  scope for modifying the layout as compared to a website or blog. I can see how a wiki would be a great way to collaborate with people when distance is an issue. All ideas can be input and added to others. The thing with that is, there needs to be a set of known rules, that everyone knows and abides by so nothing unwanted or offensive is added. I seem to be repeating myself but i don't see how it can be effectively used in the Manual Arts Department.

I found the de Bono's hats a bit uninteresting. but enjoyed the theories of Blooms Taxonomy. Blooms is more structured to me and a bit more logical. De Bono is a bit all over the place and confusing, or maybe it's just how it's been explained to me.

As you can see Blooms is easy and clear to understand

And this is just a mess!

I rest my case!

Not YouTube?

YouTube has the potential to be a valuable resource in the workshop environment. The students are able to use their phones to record video of techniques used to create their projects, for example of steps to marking out and cutting a dove tail joint. Then post their videos onto YouTube, a website, blog or many other places for all to see. They could also use the internet to look at different ways others use for the cutting out of a dovetail.

The thing to be wary of though, is that they may see a way that may seem easier but doesn't teach them the skills that you want them to learn; so emphasis is needed to inform them that you want them to learn a particular skill.
The difficulty with the use of a phone in the classroom is, how to control the use and content recorded. This is something that would have to be determined for each class and the level of trust held with them; or, an alternative recording device may be needed and controled by the teacher, such as a scool camera or video recorder.

Situated Cognition

It was interesting to read about this learning style as this is how I believe we should be learning the majority of the time. Hence becoming a teacher should be done through an apprenticeship style setup. When teaching I hope to be able to use this style as a base for creating lessons, as I believe this is the best way for me to understand how best to set out a lesson; i'm sure i'll evolve my ways as i progess as a Learning Manager.

As part of the mobile wiki task i found the following sentence and it made me think of Kingsley and his future plans - "foreign language acquisition will be more successful if the learners are immersed in conversational and cultural activities of increasing complexity and diversity, rather than concentrating on discrete-grammar exercises using recitation or paper-and-pencil worksheets."
This is something that i believe will be a great example to confirm my beliefs in this style of learning.

On a side, an interesting thing about the wiki that i read was that, if you wanted to add a review you had to have a PhD; not sure what to say about that, (up themselves?).

Are you serious

I missed the first week of classes so i am feeling a bit behind the eight ball already.

I've found the use of the blog and wiki easy enough to do, but, the adding of actual content is the hard part; i don't know what to write, i never know what to write, as you can see. I think i'll just have to do some more reading and try and understand what i need to regurgitate.
